Many people struggle to achieve their goals, and some others struggle even just to set them. To start in this post I want to show you how you can set your goals, which (I’m sure you’ll agree with me on this), it’s the first step to achieving them, right?
What do goals represent by the way? These are actually representations of your visions about you and your future. Goals should be achievable and realistic. These kinds of goals allow you to put them into practice or at least do some activities that allow you to monitor your progress. However, more is involved in just merely setting realistic goals. Remember that in order to achieve your goals, you must act according to your goals. Otherwise, all else would be vanity if you do not exert effort in reaching them.
It seems hard to believe, but actually many people don’t know what they really want, here I’m going to give you a few tips about setting goals so that we can move forward and take the necessary steps to achieve them. Let’s start!
1. Dream BIG
Before you set your goals, you need to have a big picture in mind. What exactly do you want to achieve in life? Why are you doing what you are doing right now? If you do not have a big picture, it is going to be a little bit difficult for you to set your goals.
Have a big picture in mind, so that you have a sense of direction. Now take note that we are thinking about the general stuff. You do not need to get to all the details in this step. That comes later on. For now though, think of the what you want to attain eventually. Once you have that planned out, you are ready to move on to the next step.
As you start thinking about what you want to achieve in life, what is your life dream, you need to determine your WHY, the reason behind your dream or desire. Your why is what is going to keep you motivated when discouraged or tired.
3. Create your Vision Board
A vision board is a tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal. Literally, a vision board is any sort of board on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life.
In other words, it is a visual representation of your dreams and your ideal life.
I’ve done my own dream boards in different times of my life and I can tell you, they work! All you need is any kind of board, visual images (from magazines or your own photos), glue, and inspiration!
I’ll post more in detail in a later blog, check it out!
4. Break It Down Into Bite Sized Portions
As I mentioned earlier, once you have the big picture sorted out, you may break it down into bite sized portions. A goal may seem really impossible to achieve, but that is only if you do not have baby steps that you can take.
Break it down into smaller steps that you can take day by day. I like to break it down into milestones, which are significant targets that I would like to meet on the road to achieving the ultimate goal. When you have bite sized portions, you will find it a lot easier to move towards your goal.
5. Make your goals S.M.A.R.T.
The SMART acronym can help you set objectives more effectively by focusing on objectives that are specific, measurable, attainable, pertinent and time-based. Smart goals examples can help illustrate how broad goals and wise objectives differ.
A broad objective could be to start an Internet-based business. Making use of a smart goals template, you might plan your business as follows:.
I will sell homemade dolls on my site and generate income from advertising put on the site. I will try to obtain affiliate marketers to offer my dolls on commission.
I will produce a stock, design an internet site, promote my company and get my first paying customer and affiliate partner.
I will start by utilizing complimentary design services and products that I already have. I can work at this throughout my extra time.
People have actually raved about the dolls I created for my nieces
, so I’m sure that various other people would buy them.
If I do not attain encouraging news in three months, then I will reconsider.
6. Accountability partner
Moving forward, you also have to consider that there are goals that are just too hard to achieve on your own. At times, these goals even create conflicts that you might think of surrendering in the long run. Take heart. Everybody have similar concerns at times.
If this situation occurs and you think that surrendering is the last option, why not look for a partner, a friend maybe who is willing to help you out with your goals? Collaborate with your prospective partner and learn to prioritize. If it requires spending time in plotting all the possibilities, both the pros and cons, try it.
7. Take Action
Obviously, what good is it to have bite sized portions if you do not take action? You need to stay motivated if you want to achieve those milestones, and sometimes, that can be a challenge.
Learn to discipline yourself to take the necessary steps. I’d like to encourage you to take baby steps consistently. Slow and steady wins the race.
